What changes once it runs
The app does not ask for your attention. This is what happens in the background while you use the machine normally.
Files are checked as they land
Downloads, attachments and installers are scanned before you get a chance to open the wrong one.
Pages load lighter
With ads and trackers filtered out there is simply less for the browser to fetch.
Your traffic stops being readable
On a shared network the encrypted connection is the difference between private and public.
Logins stay where you put them
A breach at some other company does not become a problem on your own machine.
Why any of this is necessary
The figures below come from the reporting behind the software. They are the reason it keeps running rather than waiting to be asked.
people defrauded online each year

is what a stolen identity costs on the dark web
Where the risk sits
Most losses do not start with a dramatic hack. They start with a login that was reused, a tracker that followed someone across a dozen sites, or a page that looked close enough to the real one.
What the app can and cannot do
It reduces risk, blocks known threats and closes the easy doors. It cannot promise that nothing will ever get through, and it does not replace your own judgement about unexpected messages and reused passwords.
What it never does
It does not read the contents of your files for any purpose other than scanning them for threats, and it does not sell what it sees. How personal data is handled is set out in the privacy policy.
